Just some thoughts:
WHAT CAN ONE BELIEVE?
Some have credited Edgar Allan Poe with saying:
“Believe only half of what you see and
nothing of what you hear.”
I think today we should add to that ” Also, nothing of what you read.”
This past week I was standing in the checkout line at Publix Grocery. I like pop cycles. Yes, I do .
Anyway I had stopped to get a box of them and a few diet Dr.Pepper’s. Standing there next the cashier are those magazine racks. You know them, don’t be so vain to say you have not noticed them or even read the headlines. You know you have, you know what happens to folks who lie.
Well I’m standing there and I notice this one rag has the headlines with a picture of Dolly Parton and her husband on the cover, in bold print it says something like, “Dolly’s husband walks out on her.” Some kinda line that in a quick read is meant to give the reader “hey ole Dolly’s in trouble.”
Now I had to laugh to myself. I had read that headline previously when I was in the store the day before. Now today just less than an hour ago I had been with Dolly’s husband’s sister and brother-in-law. I had joking said to the brother-in-law something about the headline I had read the day before. We both laughed. The brother-in-law told me “well we were just with Dolly and him last week for Christmas gathering and don’t think anyone has been doin’ any movin’. They been married for now over fifty years and that headline has ran about that many times.” He and I both remarked that media will do about anything to get attention and to make $$$$. Truth has little to do with some media sources.
I thought what were the odds of me seeing trash and then having been with someone from that family that would have inside knowledge. So to Mr. Poe we might add:
“Believe half of what you see—(even be careful there) and certainly don’t believe nothing of what you hear………. or read.”
