Just some thoughts::
TWICE DAILY–NO NOT EVEN ONCE ANYMORE
This past week I was driving my wife’s car when the light came on indicating the air/tire pressure was low. Most of you have seen that little light that comes on your dash.
This store has the “smartest cash drawers in all of Tennessee. Knows when”not to open and when to open.”
Making my way home from errands I had been running I pulled into the Twice Daily er store in my neighborhood. The air machine is located there by the gas pumps. It cost $1.50 for air. The machine takes quarters and I needed change. This is where the story begins.
I go in the store walk up the cash register, “Mama I need to get some air and I don’t have the needed quarters.” I start to hand her a twenty dollar bill and she says to me, “We can’t give change.” “Excuse me.” I repeat I just want to get some air for my car and I don’t have the quarters the machine ask. “Please can you just give me change?” “No, we cannot give change.”
Now I’m well, I’m not sure what. “Ma ma yesterday I was here and bought twenty plus dollars gas from your store. I was here two days before that and bought twenty- four dollars gas for another car, I stop here sometimes and buy a sandwich and a drink. Buy big diet Dr. Pepper, $1.89. I live within two miles of this store, I’m a customer and you are telling me you cannot give me change for a bill for me to pay for air that I am purchasing at a machine you have here?” She repeats ” I cannot give you change, we cannot open the draw for change.”
Now it gets more interesting. “You say you cannot open the drawer for change. If I walk over here get a sandwich, a drink and hand you this twenty would the draw open?” “Yes.” Question, “How does that drawer know the difference? That sure is a smart drawer, it knows not to open for change, but it knows to open for a sandwich and a coke.”
I apologized to the lady and smiling I told her I knew this was not her policy. She just works there and is doing what she has been told. Corporate somewhere had handed this policy to the store and she was just carrying it out. Corporate could use knowledge of this happening, but I feel they would care less. But corporate would rather lose a customer that passes their place of business everyday, buys gas etc. but would not accommodate them to get change to put air in their tires from a machine that is located on their drive. Does not make sense to me.
Twice Daily, it may say on the front of the store. For me I think not, not once daily, no not even once anymore period. As I had to go and look else where for air for my car’s tires, I will now do likewise for a sandwich, a drink and gas for that car that needed air for its tires.
Sorry. I know I sound like some grumpy old man don’t I. But I just wanted some change, they had a machine on their property, they sell air and I was a customer. As I say I’m know I’m sounding like a grumpy old man. ” Yes ole Pop Pop knows the times they have changed.”
But its just that I grew up in a time and place when one, a business gave you air free. (Ok, I’m ok with paying.) Two, chances are they even went to your car and aired the tires up for you. Then as you pulled from their drive good chance they waved and said, “come back and thanks for stopin’ by.”
