Just some thoughts:
This past October my wife and I were in the Washington D.C. area for our oldest daughter’s wedding. We were there for about a week visiting our oldest daughter and her family.
While there I made it a point to go to this one place. This coffee type place. Why, food, coffee is ok, but main reason is they have an old jukebox. I am a sucker for jukeboxes. Ever since the first one I saw in Shelburn, Indiana at a place called the Blue Goose. In Farmersburg, there was one at the White Swan. Another one at Finn’s Truck Stop between Shelburn and Farmersburg. Finn’s Truck Stop was the first time I ever dropped money in a jukebox. Still remember it, six plays for a quarter and I played all Elvis. In fact the first song of his I played was “When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again.”
Outside at the Blue Goose they had a big cut out type sign of a goose/swan type sitting on top of the roof of the building. You could see it even off in the distance. At night they had a spot light shinning on it. You went in parted the curtains, the lights were turned down low and there it was, a beautiful lighted jukebox. I can still remember certain songs as I kid I would play on a jukebox.
I was standin’ at the counter, I was waitin for my change,
When I heard that old familiar music start.
It was like a lighted match, had been tossed into my soul,
It was like a dam had broken in my heart,
After takin’ every detour, gettin’ lost and losin track,
So that even if I wanted, I could not find my way back,
After drivin’ out the mem’ry,, of the way things might have been,
After I’d forgotten all about us–the song remembers when.
But that’s just a lot of water, underneath a bridge I’ve burned,
And there’s no use in back trackin, around corners I have turned,
Still, I guess some things we bury, are just bound to rise again,
For even if the whole world has forgotten–the song remembers when.
I sure hope there is a Patsy Cline song on that jukebox.
The song…remembers when…and I do also….
