Just some thoughts:
We had just finished a round of golf and the four of us were sitting at a table on the porch of the club. Sitting with the three I heard a great line. If I were a song writer I think I would have written it down.
Two of the guys sitting at the table had grown up together in the late 1950s’ in this small town in a neighboring state. Actually they had been best buddies from early elementary school age. They had played sports together, double dated, etc. The wife of one of the them had been the best friend with his buddies ex-wife and remained so even now. Another guy also sitting at the table was also from the same town but was a couple years ahead of the two in high school
When the one guy got up to go get drinks for the group the older fella ask the friend about the guys ex. “What ever happened in that situation?” A brief conversation then took place while the fella had left the table. The friend ended the conversation regarding his friend’s ex by saying:
“I think she’s still the rock in his shoe”
Later that afternoon as I drove home I thought about that line: “She’s still the rock in his shoe.”
I wonder if that couldn’t be said of a lot of relationships.
