Just some thoughts:
“See me.” All of us have either had those words said to or written to us in some form. Often those two words can strike fear within us.
She handed my paper back. On it written in big bold letters and red ink were two words, “See me.” On no I thought this cannot be good. After class she called me to her desk, “Mr. Adamson what you did was rather unusual.” This was my freshman year in college and I was getting too familiar with doing the unusual. Earlier I had turned in a paper to her and did rather poorly. It was an outline of a speech I was to give. On that paper had been a lot of red ink and a very poor grade. Today she said: “Mr. Adamson you surprised me with how well you did on your actual presentation, you recovered well and I wanted to tell you.”
I was nineteen years old in college and working in a bank. Actually I had started working at that bank wrapping coins in the vault when I was fourteen years old. (Yes something that probably could not do today) I did a number of jobs while at the bank. At this time the job saw me working where the bank reposed things. One of those things was vehicles. Now here I am a nineteen year old kid going out and “taking things away from people.” Did not make a lot of folks happy. One week in my weekly pay envelope there was a note from one of the bank officers, it said, “Please see me.” Oh no, again thought this is not good.
The officer called me to his officer to tell me what a good job I had done in a difficult reposing matter. “Larry you did a good job on a rather sticky situation, I just wanted to tell you.” You could have knocked me over with a feather.
Here’s my point…if you are in a position of authority and see someone do something good maybe a little out of the ordinary…write them a “See me.” Tell them so. We all let far too many good things others do go unnoticed and appreciated.
One’s life can always use some “See Me’s.”
