Just some thoughts:
RUSH TO JUDGEMENT
“President Truman must be impeached and convicted. His hasty and vindictive removal of General MacArthur is the culmination of a series of acts which have shown that he is unfit, morally and mentally, for his high office. The American nation has never been in greater danger. It is led by a fool who surrenders to knaves.”
Front page/ editorial of Chicago Tribune–1951
“Neither does it make any difference if General MacArthur is a man of astounding personality, tremendous achievements, graduated first in his class in the great college of the Army and has a distinguished career and has proven a wonderful administrator of the Japanese people or that we like him better than Harry S. Truman. Principle must always be above personality and it must be expediency. The principle we recognize here is that the control of this country must come through the president and departments that are organized under him and through Congress, and that any decision that comes from that person through those means is not to be dismissed because we don’t like the personality who expressed it, nor is it to be overridden because we have a conquering hero.”
Quote from Reverend Dr. Duncan E. Littlefair–Fountain Street Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Most writers of history today side in support of Truman’s decision.
You know some decisions from family to country, decisions often take time to weigh the correctness. Often man does not want to encounter.
“Principle must always be above personality
and it must be expediency.”
