Just some thoughts:
Two of my favorite writers are Pat Conroy and Lewis Grizzard.
Interesting that I should like both of them as they are somewhat apart in what they write about.
In fact Conroy made it known he was not a fan of Grizzard. Grizzard wrote southern humor and total not politically correct. Conroy the serious one with such works as The Great Santin, Prince of Tides, Beach Music, My Losing Season and other serious works. Grizzard sometimes got a bit way out and Conroy is the kind of guy that one might say to him, “Hey its Saturday eat a hamburger.” Sadly both of them are now deceased.
But you know sometimes humor can have a serious side to it. Grizzard had a problem staying in relationships. Just a few days before his death he said to his wife (number four), “Honey, I think I got it this time, I got it figured out. It’s not about winning, its about listening.”
Sometimes funny people can also say something quite serious.
“It’s not about winning, its about listening.”
