Just some thoughts:
Fundamentals–A central or primary rule or principle on which something is based.
This morning as I pulled from my drive in my old car headed to my coffee place I slipped in a cd. Just prior to this cd I had been listening to Roy Acuff and his Smoky Mountains Boys. “The Wabash Cannonball.” Now I was playing Jimmy Durante. OK..yes quite a shift.
There is a great line in an old Durante song, “The fundamental things apply as time goes by.” As I drove along I hung on that line. Fundamentals. Some things that are certain, a given. Things that have stood the test of time. Principles that were once true and remain so, regardless of time and place.
I thought of my six grand kids and now two great grand kids. I hope they learn or are learning the “fundamentals” of life. I equally hope as their grandparents, three and four generations before them, we are helping in that learning process.
Things like honesty, integrity, compassion, fairness, treatment of all people. Fundamentals in ever phase of ones life are surely needed. Learning what is important. Always be able to see the “Big Picture.” Stealing a line from my old grandma, “Never throw the baby out with the bath water.”
And…by the way:
Moonlight and love songs–
hey should never be out of date.”
