Just some thoughts:
“our concerned in the facts”
“But others there are, who, of necessity and by force, are driven to write history, because they are concerned in the facts, and so cannot excuse themselves from committing them to writing, for the advantage of posterity, nay, there are not a few who are induced to draw their historical facts out of darkness into light, and to produce them for the benefit of the public, on account of great importance of the facts themselves with which they have been concerned.”
“great importance of the facts themselves”
Facts are what is important.
Not opinion, not what is alleged. Not what someone thinks…facts. I’m not sure we have ever lived in an age when the matter of facts was more misused, not ever present or in some cases the source knew they were not accurate. And could have cared less.
A teacher once said to me:
“Feelings aren’t necessarily facts.”
I had to swallow on that one based on what I was feeling, but she was right.
