Just some thoughts:
“A meddling or prying person.” Dictionary definition.
Most all of us have known one. Probably more than one. They show up in offices, clubs, schools, most all work places and one I can certainly remember too often, they show up in churches.
“Well evidently he’s not given his money to the church as he should see him drivin’ that Cadillac.” Once heard that line from a church busy body I once knew. Busy bodies are often passing judgement on a lot of matters. In this case a man who attended church where I did had gotten himself a Cadillac and to this busy body lady had to sound off.
In the case of this Cadillac man he had bought the car at a junk yard. It had been wrecked. He bought the car for a song. He had the ability to repair cars beyond the belief of most people. Exactly what he did with this Cadillac. My dad once bought a car from him where he took the front end of one car and welded it to the end of another. Great looking car. No one ever knew the difference.
In 1964 he helped me deliver on a lifetime dream. He found a 1959 Corvette. Found it at a junk yard. I can remember the first time I saw it. Sitting next to an old building looking like it would never run again. He called me: “Larry I think I have found you a Corvette I know you have always wanted one. It needs work, I can do that. It needs cleaning up badly and you can do that.” I bought the car for much less than what it proved to be worth. Again ole Busy Body sounded off in her foyer pulpit: “Well that kid must be gettin’ money from some place if he’s drivin’ a car like that.”
Hank Williams once had a line in a song that should have been said to ole Busy Body:
“Mind your own business..cause if your minding’ your business you won’t be minding’. mine.”
But for busy bodies that’s an awful lot to ask.
Bottom line for most all of us, stay out of other folks affairs, business. What they drive, house they live in, etc. most time we don’t know the details and really its none of our business.
