Just some thoughts:
It was late, actually I guess you could say it was headed toward early. Close to midnight and I was driving on interstate 65 a bit south of Louisville, Kentucky.
I was coming home from one of my trips back home to Indiana that I make three or four times a year. I’ve never had the urge to live back there but I do want to “go back” with some regularity. I had gotten a later than usual start home as I wanted to play one more round of golf before leaving and that caused a late start.
I had just stopped at one of them all night gas/convince type stores for some gas and a cup of black coffee. Just before pulling back on the interstate I slipped in a cd. A cd of all people one might say, a cd of Jimmy Durante. Often when I drive by myself I will play music a bit foreign from what I often play during my time around home. Late night driving music. Four Freshmen, Julie London, Sinatra, etc.
The second song to come on got me to thinking.
“The Best Things In Life Are Free”
The moon belongs to everyone/ The best things in life they’re free
Stars belong to everyone/ They cling there for you and me
As I drove on sipping my coffee I got to thinking, it was a beautiful full moon night I could see out my windshield window. You know there’s a lot of truth in that line….some of the best things in ones life….are free. Sometimes it takes age for that to be fully realized.
We just need to take stock.
